A former first round pick has been suggested as a possible trade option for Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks to help alleviate their current injury situation.

Amid injury issues to their forward group, the Vancouver Canucks dropped their second straight game on Thursday night, falling to the Nashville Predators by a score of 2 to 1.

“I think the Canucks certainly tried to, you know, comb the market and see what was out there in terms of the center position. I just don’t think they got close on anything.” David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period said last month.

Former first round pick suggested as trade target for Vancouver Canucks

This week, NHL insider Frank Seravalli discussed the Vancouver Canucks’ injury and center situation on his new show Frankly Hockey where he shared how difficult it’s going to be for Adam Foote’s group to have any success with the depth they have down the middle right now.

Because of their current situation, the Canucks are going to need to go out onto the trade market and bring in some external help, everyone knows that by now, but deals aren’t always easy to complete at this time of year as teams around the league are trying to feel out whether or not they’ll be in the mix for a postseason berth when all is said and done.

Despite that, Vancouver is expected to be active in the trade market, as several insiders have noted recently, with Frank Seravalli suggesting some names for the club to consider in the weeks ahead and among the players he mentions is Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Poehling.

The #Canucks might have to settle for less than perfect centre help, said @frank_seravalli on his show today.

Some of the names he threw out as possibilities:

– Alex Wennberg
Adam Gaudette
– Ryan Poehling
– Casey Middlestat
– JG Pageau
Kevin Hayes?
– JT Compher?” Noah Strang said on X on Wednesday.Poehling, 26, was a first round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2017 and has jumped around the league a bit in recent years, suiting up for the Habs, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers and this season, the Anaheim Ducks, who he was dealt to as part of the Trevor Zegras trade in June.

While the Lakeville, Minnesota native certainly isn’t a second line center by any means, he could come in and provide some more experience down the middle than the Canucks currently have, while playing a depth role in the bottom-six.

Poehling is under contract for the 2025-26 season at $1.9 million USD, which is more than management for the Canucks to add, and is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st next summer.
