The Canadiens’ goaltending situation has taken an unexpected twist early in the season, and few saw it coming.

No one expected it to become a big storyline, but it’s hard to deny that it has.

While some had mentioned that the plan hadn’t changed at all for Samuel Montembeault and Jakub Dobes, based on what we saw again this morning live from Vancouver, I can confirm that the plan has changed.

“No panic! Jakub Dobes was already supposed to be in front of the net tonight against the Sabres!” – Renaud Lavoie, BPM Sports

But today, it couldn’t be any clearer.

Change of plans confirmed in goal for the Montreal Canadiens: all signs point to Jakub Dobes now being ahead of Samuel Montembeault

And all indications are that Dobes will be in goal tonight at 7:00 p.m. against the Vancouver Canucks, since Samuel Montembeault practiced as an extra today.

“Samuel Montembeault, Joshua Roy and Marc Del Gaizo
are the only players on the ice at the optional skate this morning.”

– Renaud Lavoie, TVA Sports

That means Montembeault, Roy, and Del Gaizo will not be in the starting lineup tonight.

“No morning skate or pregame availability for the Habs given the 4pm local start in Vancouver. Line-up details will likely be known closer to warm ups ahead of today’s game vs the Canucks”

– Priyanta Emrith

What a turn of events for Montembeault and Dobes…
