The Carolina Hurricanes (6-1-0) and Dallas Stars (3-3-1) meet Saturday. Puck drop from American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Hurricanes vs. Stars odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.
2024-25 regular-season series: Hurricanes won 2-0
The Hurricanes won the most recent meeting 2-1 in Dallas Jan. 21 as a slight underdog (+115) as the Under (5.5) cashed. It also won in Raleigh 6-4 as a moderate favorite (-125) in Raleigh Nov. 25 as the Over (6.5) cashed.
Before that, Dallas swept the regular-season series in the 2023-24 season, with Carolina sweeping in the 2022-23 campaign. In fact, the last time one of these didn’t sweep both games was during the COVID season with limited attendance in 2020-21. The Under is 4-1 in the past 5 in the series, too.
Carolina won 5-4 in a shootout Thursday as slight underdogs (+120) as the Over (6) cashed behind Frederik Andersen. He stopped 44 of the 48 shots he faced, while Eric Robinson, Seth Jarvis (shorthanded), Sebastian Aho and Logan Stankoven scored first-period goals. Stankoven returns to Dallas for the first time since being traded for Mikko Rantanen at the NHL trade deadline last season.
Dallas suffered a 3-2 loss in overtime Thursday, although Jake Oettinger made 22 saves on 25 shots to give his team a chance. Jason Robertson and Wyatt Johnston each notched power-play goals in regulation. The Stars are 0-3-1 in the past 4 games, while the Under is 3-0 in the past 3 outings, totaling just 4 goals in the span.

Frederik Andersen (4-1-0, 2.72 GAA, .901 SV%) vs. Jake Oettinger (3-2-1, 3.14 GAA, .894 SV%)
Andersen was staked to a 4-1 lead after 20 minutes in Dallas, but he conceded 3 goals before hanging on for a victory in a shootout Thursday. He has allowed 3 or more goals in 4 of his 5 starts, and he has picked up 2 victories in 3 of his assignments on the road.
Oettinger has coughed up 7 goals in his past 2 starts, and he is winless in his previous 3 outings since rattling off 3 straight wins to start the season. He was 0-2-0 with a 3.60 GAA and .865 SV% in 2 starts last season against the Hurricanes.
Hurricanes at Stars picks and predictionsPrediction
Hurricanes 3, Stars 2
The HURRICANES (-105) have continued to find a way to get the job done on their annual North Carolina State Fair road odyssey. Each season, Carolina is sent on a nearly 2-week road trip in October with the state fair in Raleigh near Lenovo Center. In the first 5 games of the trip, Carolina is 4-1-0, and it has scored 4 or more goals in 6 of 7 games this season.
On the flip side, the Stars can’t be trusted, as they’re 0-3-1 in the past 4 games, and Dallas has scored just 4 total goals in the past 3 outings.
The Canes +1.5 (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return, if you need a little bit of insurance and you just can’t trust Dallas straight up. It’s way too expensive, either as a standalone wager, or even as part of a multi-leg parlay.
PASS, and if you like Carolina, just bet it straight up.
UNDER 6 (-110) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at best.
The Stars have averaged just 1.3 GPG in the past 3 games, so that’s one reason to like the Under. The Canes have cashed the Under in 3 of 5 games on the road trip so far, too. The other reason to go low is the fact the Under is 4-1 in the past 5 meetings in this series.
