The Colorado Avalanche have announced the recall of defenseman Jack Ahcan and forward Danil Guschin from their AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles.

Ahcan is off to a strong start this season, recording one goal and five points through four games with the Eagles. The 28-year-old posted 41 points in 69 AHL games last season and appeared in two contests with the Avalanche, going scoreless. Over his career, the Savage, Minnesota native has compiled 153 points in 276 AHL games and one goal in 11 NHL appearances split between Colorado and the Boston Bruins. Ahcan signed a one-year extension with the Avalanche organization in July.

Guschin, meanwhile, currently leads the Eagles in scoring with six goals and seven points through five games. The 23-year-old winger has produced two goals and five points in 18 career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks and amassed 157 points in 187 AHL contests. A 2023–24 AHL All-Star, Guschin was acquired by Colorado in July in exchange for forward Oskar Olausson, after originally being selected by the Sharks in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft.

With injuries to Samuel Girard, Logan O’Connor, and Joel Kiviranta, both Ahcan and Guschin are expected to provide valuable depth options for the Avalanche as they embark on their upcoming road trip. After getting a first look at Kiviranta Thursday morning inside Ball Arena, it’s pretty clear that the 29-year-old has a long road to recovery. We also spoke to Girard briefly prior to morning skate. Girard was a participant Wednesday morning at the injured skate at Family Sports but was a non-participant the following day.

Both Ahcan and Gushkin were some of the more impressive players at training camp, with Gushkin showcasing sneaky shot power, while Ahcan exhibited his defense prowess and stick positioning to consistently break up plays.
