Brennan Othmann hasn’t lived up to expectations in New York, and now the team have revealed what they’re seeking in return for the former top pick.
With the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, the New York Rangers selected Brennan Othmann, a talented winger out of the Ontario Hockey League with hopes he could supplement this impressive veteran group.
However, Othmann has struggled at the professional level thus far, and in 25 NHL games over the past three seasons, he’s tallied just two assists, failing to make much of an impact for New York.
New York Rangers Reveal What They Want In A Trade For Brennan Othmann
At 22-years of age however, the team knew that development may take a while, so they’ve been patient with him, but after hoping he would crack the roster this year and failing to do so, it appears as though they’re ready to move on from him.
Now, it’s officially been revealed by Elliotte Friedman what the team are hoping to get in return for Othmann, with the organization seemingly set on moving him unless he breaks out in the coming weeks.
When asked, the Rangers have requested good AHL prospects in exchange for Brennan Othmann.
According to Friedman, the Rangers are looking for good AHL prospects, and while that doesn’t reveal how many or what stage of development they are at, it’s clear that the Rangers know Othmann doesn’t hold much value at this stage.
Ultimately, this was another failed first-round pick in Drury’s tenure with the Rangers, and while not all the blame can be placed on the GM, unless they get a solid return for Othmann, this will go down as another tough pick for Drury.
