NASHVILLE- The Los Angeles Kings turned in a whole-team scoring effort on Saturday night against the Nashville Predators and brought the game all the way down to the wire, but Los Angeles couldn’t execute in the final moments and dropped the game 5-4 in shootouts.
The Kings got the whole team involved to put their four points on the board with every goal scored by a different Los Angeles player. Corey Perry, Joel Armia, Adrien Kempe and Trevor Moore all put a puck in the net to keep the Kings in the game while defenseman Brandt Clarke was possibly the most involved player on the team with two assists.Â
Nashville and Los Angeles matched each other goal-for-goal each period, finishing regulation tied at four before a stalemate in overtime forced a shootout. Los Angeles outshot Nashville 40-25 in the game but struggled to maintain possession of the puck early on, which limited their overall scoring opportunities.Â
Armia netted an assists on top of his goal while Andrei Kuzemenko also grabbed an assist on the night.Â
Nashville’s Ozzy Wiesblatt scored the deciding goal in the Predators’ favor during the shootout to secure the win. Wiesblatt has gone scoreless in regulation this season for Nashville but came up big when the team needed him most to overcome the Kings.
Overtime has become an uncomfortably common sight for the Kings so far this season, with three ties on their record already just nine games into the season. Saturday’s loss put them at .500 in the W/L column and at an even 3-3-3 record this season.Â
It’s been a slower start to the season than Los Angeles expected and they are likely still waiting for their stars to find their stride in the 2025-26 season. Among those stars in Quinton Byfield, who went without a goal in Saturday’s bout for the fifth straight time this season. Byfield has still found other ways to contribute on the ice and is second on the team in assists with six, but Los Angeles has clearly been hurting without more of an offensive presence from him.
The Kings have two more games on their road trip with trips to Chicago and San Jose, offering an opportunity to reset and come back to Crypto.com Arena strong. The season is still early and the Kings showed a lot of offensive promise against a tough Nashville roster, but surviving in a tough Pacific division will be dependent on Los Angeles stringing together consistent offensive performances, especially from their biggest names.Â
