Toronto Maple Leafs winger William Nylander was a late scratch for Saturday’s 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres, while Morgan Rielly returned to action following a one-game absence.

Forward Nick Robertson took Nylander’s spot on the top line next to Auston Matthews and Bobby McMann, recording a goal and two hits in just under 15 minutes of ice time.

Rielly missed Friday’s 5-3 loss to the Sabres due to an undisclosed injury, but logged 19:29 to close out the second half of the back-to-back while skating on the top pairing next to Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Nylander went to the dressing room after falling in the front-end of Toronto’s home-and-home with the Sabres in Buffalo Friday night. After the game head coach Craig Berube told reporters “we’ll see” when asked about the star forward’s status for Saturday.

Nylander had a goal in 17:39 of ice time before departing.

The Leafs ended a three-game skid with the win over the Sabres, moving their record to 4-4-1 to open the season.
