A Vancouver Canucks forward prospect has been suspended indefinitely by the Ontario Hockey League following a dangerous play during a game on Friday night.

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin and his scouting staff had an excellent draft in late-June, picking up a handful of “steals” throughout the event, especially on the second day.Among the players that Patrik Allvin had the privilege to select include Memorial Cup-winning goaltender Aleksei Medvedev of the London Knights (OHL), Swedish forward Wilson Bjorck and in the sixth-round, added Gabriel Chiarot, cousin of Detroit Red Wings defenseman Ben Chiarot.

Chiarot’s club, the Brampton Steelheads, haven’t had the greatest start to the 2025-26 season as they sit seventh in the OHL’s Eastern Conference entering action on Sunday with a 6-6-0-0 record through 12 games, with the Canucks prospect registering eight points in nine games thus far.

The Hamilton, Ontario native has found himself in some hot water recently and is facing the potential for lengthy suspension from the league.

Vancouver Canucks prospect Gabriel Chiarot suspended indefinitely by Ontario Hockey League

In a social media post on Saturday morning, the Ontario Hockey League announced that they’ve suspended Gabriel Chiarot, pending review, after he was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for blindsiding on Friday night against the Niagara IceDogs.

“#OHL Disciplinary Action:

Brampton’s Gabriel Chiarot has been suspended pending review as a result of actions (Major, Blindsiding) on Oct. 24th at Niagara.” the league said.

The incident in question occurred during the second period of Friday night’s game, as Chiarot cut into the middle of the Steelheads’ zone and laid a massive hit to an unsuspecting opponent – Reyth Smith.

“Gabe Chiarot was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct last night for this hit midway through the second period.

According to today’s Brampton Steelheads broadcast, he is out of the lineup today due to a suspension. However, the length has not been given.” Dave Hall of Canucks Army said on X.

It’s unclear when the Ontario Hockey League is expected to announce their verdict on how long Gabriel Chiarot’s suspension will be, but it wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if it’s somewhere in the five-to-seven game range.
