The Bubblers have had their eyes set on one team all season long, and they finally got their chance at revenge.
They took advantage, defeating West Perry 1-0 in a District 3 Class 1A quarterfinal field hockey matchup Saturday.
The Mustangs defeated the Bubblers 6-2 in 2024’s District 3 title game and then again 4-0 in the PIAA championship bout.
Kayla Fry scored the goal Saturday for the No. 4 Bubblers off a corner assist from Kendall Longenberger.
The strike came with 5:55 to play in the first quarter. Goaltender Oivia Wickard held strong from there, making four saves to keep the clean sheet and secure the victory.
Brinley Comp made nine saves to keep the No. 5 Mustangs in the game.
The Bubblers, now 16-3, have qualified for the PIAA tournament and will face Susquenita in the district semifinals Wednesday. The top-seeded Blackhawks, who defeated Greenwood 5-1 Saturday, will host.
Despite the loss, the Mustangs still have a shot to make the state playoffs. They will have to win a consolation semifinal matchup against Greenwood to advance.
West Perry previously defeated Greenwood 3-2 in the PECO semifinals.
West Perry drops to 15-5 with the loss. The District 3 title game will be contested next Saturday.
