ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA – Michael Misa scored his first NHL goal and the San Jose Sharks defeated the Minnesota Wild 6-5 in overtime off a goal from Macklin Celebrini on Sunday at Grand Casino Arena.
“Those are the right guys to be in that position,” Celebrini said. “I think they did a great job. Didn’t give them too many chances, and Asky, he was unbelievable too. Made some big saves. They did a great job.”
William Eklund scored twice and added an assist for a three-point night. Eklund now has three goals in the past two games. Ryan Reaves and Tyler Toffoli also scored for San Jose. Yaroslav Askarov started back-to-back games and made 28 saves.
“I think we did a better job [along the boards]. I think we’ve still got a little ways to go in some areas, that being one of them. Especially in the defensive zone —more so —but we did some good things,” Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said postgame. “We’re growing. We’re learning lessons as we go here. That’s probably the biggest thing we take from tonight.”

Marco Rossi had a goal and an assist for the Wild. Marcus Johansson, Ryan Hartman, and Zeev Buium also scored for the Wild, and Jesper Wallstedt made 19 saves. Kirill Kaprizov had three assists.
Penalties continue to haunt the Sharks as they gave up another two power-play goals on four man-advantages. Eklund’s first goal was on the power play, giving him two straight games with a power play goal.
“We’re just, we’re just a little off. I thought it was actually a little bit better. I know we give up the two, but it’s just a little off,” Warsofsky said about the penalty kill. “We obviously need some guys to step up and grab some spots.”
The Sharks would capitalize on their power play opportunities, going 2-for-2. Ryan Warsofsky has wanted his special teams units —both the PP and the PK —to be better.

Eklund gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 5:28 of the first period. Eklund got a pass from Macklin Celebrini on the goal line to the left of Wallstedt, and his pass in front went off a defender and past the goalie.
Misa scored his first NHL goal at 13:35 to put the Sharks up 2-0. After Timothy Liljegren walked to the net, Misa found the loose puck to stuff in.
“It’s [the] easiest, first goal I could probably ask for,” Misa said. “That’s hockey you got to get to the net to try and score goals. I was fortunate enough to be in that spot.”
