The Hockey Hall of Fame has made a big announcement in recent days regarding former Vancouver Canuck Alex Mogilny’s participation in induction weekend next month.

After years and years of waiting to hear his name called, former Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Mogilny finally received word back in June that he was going to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

“Welcome to the Hockey Hall of Fame, Alexander Mogilny.” the Hockey Hall of Fame said on social media in late June.

With the Hockey Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony exactly two weeks away, on Monday, November 10th at Brookfield Place in Toronto, some news has come out regarding Alex Mogilny’s participation in the event.

In a social media post on Friday afternoon, the Hockey Hall of Fame announced that Alex Mogilny will not be in attendance for any events during the weekend of November 7th to 9th or the induction ceremony on November 10th.

The Hall of Fame added that the Khabarovsk, Russia native has prepared a speech, which will be shown via video during the induction ceremony.

“Induction Celebration Notice:
Class of 2025 Inductee Alexander Mogilny has confirmed that he is unable to attend the Induction in person. He will be sharing his acceptance speech through a video message that will be aired during the Induction Celebration on Monday, November 10th.” the Hockey Hall of Fame said.

A reason was not given for Alex Mogilny’s absence from the upcoming Hall of Fame weekend, but one possibility could be due to an alleged fear of flying, something that kept him out of the lineup during a trip to St. Louis while with the Buffalo Sabres in February 1990, with the Russian forward opting to remain at home and not travel with the club.

The 56-year-old became eligible for induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame back in 2009, three years after his NHL career came to a close, which saw him finish with 1,032 points in 990 games with Buffalo, Vancouver, New Jersey and Toronto.
