The NHL’s “Frozen Frenzy” returns for a third season, with all 32 clubs in action on Tuesday night. I’m not sure that I’ve seen any advertising for this over the last few weeks, which fits the bill for the league. The Ottawa Senators head into Chicago after handily defeating the Boston Bruins on Monday and take on the Blackhawks at the United Center for the back end of their back-to-back.

Also in Blackhawks news, two forwards have their statuses in question for the matchup with Ottawa, while a top prospect keeps finding the back of the net over in Russia.

Around the league, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin led the Pittsburgh Penguins to yet another win on Monday, and the Philadelphia Flyers decided on Jett Luchanko’s future.

All that & more in the Daily!

Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Tidbits

Chicago Hockey Now: Tyler Bertuzzi and Ilya Mikheyev were both absent from practice in Chicago on Monday, while coach Jeff Blashill tinkered with his top power-play unit. Here’s a write-up on all the key notes from the latest Blackhawks practice.

More CHN: Last time out on Sunday, the Blackhawks had their five-game point streak snapped in a 3-1 defeat to the Los Angeles Kings. Connor Bedard put his team ahead early, but the Kings responded with three unanswered goals.

More CHN: ICYMI, Lukas Reichel was finally traded on Friday, as the former first-round pick was dealt to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick.

Blackhawks 2023 second-round pick Roman Kantserov seemingly can’t stop scoring goals, as he found the back of the net AGAIN on Monday. Kantserov, still only 21 years old, now leads the KHL with 13 goals on the season. He’s also third in the league with 21 points. There’s only one other player inside the top 25 in points who’s younger than 24 years old.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic: *TW* — Retired NHL center Ryan Kesler has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree sexual assault. The 41-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charges while being arraigned in Michigan on Monday.

TSN: Matthew Schaefer just turned 18 years old last month… and he’s already performing like a true No. 1 defenseman in the NHL. Simply incredible. With Schaefer shining during his rookie campaign, should Canada consider naming him to their 2026 Olympic Roster?

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The guy never seems to slow down. Sidney Crosby scored a goal and added two assists in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ win over the St. Louis Blues on Monday. Crosby became just the ninth player in NHL history to reach 1,700 career points, and he’s now just 22 points shy of fellow Pens legend, Mario Lemieux.

Philadelphia Hockey Now: Jett Luchanko cracked the Philadelphia Flyers‘ roster out of training camp for the second consecutive season, but he still hasn’t recorded his first career NHL point. With Luchanko not quite finding his footing yet in the big leagues, the Flyers reassigned him to the OHL on Monday.

Boston Hockey Now: Boston Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm has already missed eight games this season, and he’s going to miss even more. Lindholm, who suffered the injury against the Blackhawks a few weeks ago, was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body issue on Sunday.

San Jose Hockey Now: Macklin Celebrini and William Eklund each scored twice, while Michael Misa finally potted his first NHL goal. A fun night that displayed the bright future for the San Jose Sharks.
