The Pittsburgh Penguins are never boring. Monday, the Penguins were the subject of a trade report. They beat the St. Louis Blues in dramatic fashion, but are facing a looming decision involving the collision of philosophy and reality. Elsewhere in the Daily, the LA Kings and Adrian Kempe are squaring off at the negotiating table, the Calgary Flames are getting ready to sell on the NHL trade market, and a Penguins prospect was dished a sweet honor.
I don’t know if we’ll get an update on the fan who was critically injured at Monday’s game when he fell from the upper deck, but take it for what you will–the reach of PHN is sometimes greater than I realize. We had unofficial reports from people who were also at the hospital for unrelated matters, who gave us a glimmer of hope that the man would recover. That’s not an official report; that’s just a few humans telling this human what they saw without knowing specifics. And, quite frankly, I think we all want good news, so I’m willing to believe it without question. Cool?
Thank you to the many fans who sent photos of the glass and the seats. NBC News used several for their story. I went down to the seats to find out as much as possible because I knew you wanted to know, because you cared that one of our own was hurt.
On a much lighter note, a FIX for the comments section has been decided. The bad? All of your comments from the last five years will be gone. The good, you’ll be able to comment, argue, and reply to each other very soon. The short answer is, we gave up waiting for tech support on the comment section, so we’re going with a new company.
I figured you’d be happier this way, but poor Pete’s daily ad hominems against Mike Sullivan will be lost forever. Don’t worry Pete, I will remember you. Will you remember me? Don’t let your life pass you by. Weep not for the memories.
So, from an Amtrak train somewhere in Pennsylvania, here we go.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins scored–first shot, first goal. It’s got to be the building. Then, the Penguins scored on the second shot, too. Here’s the fun of the Penguins’ 6-3 win over St. Louis in the Penguins recap.
Oh by the way, two more milestones–BIG ONES–for Sidney Crosby.
It took a minute last night, but we got the report card, too. The stars were shining, but the rookies had real problems, and one is increasingly putting his NHL season in jeopardy. With video, explanation, and full details, here’s the Penguins report card.
And yesterday, we broke a little bit of news. Over the weekend, the Penguins were kicking tires on the NHL trade block.
And, Sergei Murashov has been lights out in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, so the league had to make him the AHL player of the week.
That’s the Howie’s Hockey Tape Player of the Week, baby!
NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now
Sportsnet: Perhaps the Penguins aren’t the only sellers (are they still sellers?!) on the market. The Calgary Flames’ rotten start has them reeling and GM Craig Conroy lining up train tickets for some high-value players.
NHLtraderumors.me: Adrian Kempe is owed a new contract after this season, but he and the LA Kings are a few million per season apart. What comes next? Elliotte Friedman says they have to get a deal done…just have to.
Philly Hockey Now: We’re on our way to Philadelphia, and a couple of Flyers prospects could be, too. Injuries have opened some spots, and it’s time to recall a couple of Flyers prospects.
TSN: Oh no. Former Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler has been charged with fourth-degree sexual assault in Michigan.
His former teammate Willie Mitchell is also facing a civil suit for an incident at a charity event a few years ago.
Detroit Hockey Now: A little nugget for you who watched the Penguins before Mario. Mr. Goalie Glenn Hall’s career started in Detroit, and the 94-year-old did some reminiscing in a new documentary hockey nerds might very much enjoy.
And the latest No Pucks Given went up Monday, too. Make sure to set us up for downloads and take a listen.
