A former Vancouver Canucks forward, who went on to carve out a solid career in the ECHL and was inducted into their Hall of Fame, has sadly passed away this week.
The hockey world is in mourning once again this week as we’ve sadly lost one of the best players to ever lace them up in the ECHL, who made an appearance with the Vancouver Canucks in the early 1990s.
Former Vancouver Canuck, ECHL Hall of Famer passes away at age of 56
In a post on social media on Monday, the National Hockey League’s Alumni Association announced that former Vancouver Canucks forward Cam Brown has passed away at the age of 56.
“The NHL Alumni Association is heartbroken to learn that Cam Brown has passed away at the age of 56.
Those who were lucky enough to know Cam remember him as a wonderful mentor, friend, and ambassador to the game of hockey.
We send our deepest condolences to Cam’s family, friends, and former teammates during this incredibly difficult time.” the NHL Alumni Association said.
Brown, originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, suited up for just one game in the National Hockey League in his career, which came as a member of the Vancouver Canucks on March 3rd, 1991, when he picked up seven penalty minutes in an 8-0 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.
He went on to make a name for himself down in the ECHL, where he played for the Columbus Chill, Erie Panthers, Baton Rouge Kingfish and the Gwinnett Gladiators, registering 499 points (206 goals, 293 assists), along with 2,425 penalty minutes.
“Browny [Brown] taught me how to be a pro right away when I came in as a rookie. It wasn’t what he said, it was how he prepared on and off the ice and how he treated everyone, regardless of the role they had with the team ad organization. He was an amazing leader, captain, and mentor to myself and countless others. Browny was an even better guy off the ice and way from the rink. He has one of the biggest hearts and cared so much about everyone around him. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.” Brown’s former teammate Brad Schell said.
In 2010, Brown was inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame and then saw his number 44 raised to the rafters by the Atlanta (formerly Gwinnett) Gladiators.
The thoughts of everyone here at Canucks Daily are with Brown’s family, friends and former teammates at this difficult time.
