Penn State men’s hockey’s star freshman forward continues to rack in accolades, folks.

Gavin McKenna was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

McKenna earns the accolade after a pair of multi-point performances in the Nittany Lions’ sweep over Stonehill. During Friday’s game, McKenna found the back of the net to tie the game late in the third period. The Canadian then set up teammate JJ Weibusch to score the game-winning goal with just over 22 seconds left in the third period.

The second goal of the weekend for the NHL’s top prospect in the upcoming draft came off a power play, followed by his second assist of the weekend to Shea Van Olm, leading the Nittany Lions to a 4-2 victory on Saturday to secure the sweep.

Mckenna’s series performance marks four multi-point performances this season. The freshman now ranks sixth in the Big Ten and twelfth nationally in points, with 10.

McKenna is the fourth consecutive Nittany Lion to be named one of Big Ten Hockey’s weekly star recipients this season.
