It was a night of milestones for several members of the Chicago Blackhawks in the team’s 7-3 win over the Ottawa Senators at the United Center.
Captain Nick Foligno picked up his 600th career NHL point, Sam Lafferty played in his 100th game with Chicago, and Ryan Donato earned his 100th point as a member of the Blackhawks.
The most significant milestone reached on Tuesday, however, was undoubtedly Connor Bedard recording his first NHL hat trick against Ottawa, with all three goals scored off marvelous wrist shots.
Bedard potted his first goal of the game and fourth of the season late in the first period on the power play to extend the Blackhawks’ lead to 3-0. Look at the perfect spot placement to put the puck over Senators’ goaltender Linus Ullmark’s left shoulder.
Also, remember how I said moving Bedard to the right dot on the power play made sense a few days ago? That decision sure paid off here.
Then, early in the second period, Bedard went on a coast-to-coast rush, dicing through the Ottawa defense and snapping another wrist shot past Ullmark for his second tally of the game and fifth of the season. That was also Bedard’s 50th goal of his NHL career. Another milestone! He joined some elite company by becoming just the seventh player in Blackhawks franchise history to score 50 NHL goals before turning 21 years old.

With the game still in the balance early in the third period, following a massive charge made by the Senators in the middle frame, Bedard came up clutch and roofed yet another wrist shot past Ullmark’s glove to pick up the hat trick. The first of many for Bedard.
After the Blackhawks faithful in attendance at the United Center went quiet during the Senators’ surge late in the second period, they were back on their feet and tossing hats onto the ice after Bedard’s third goal of the night and sixth of the season.
A night to remember for Bedard.
Through ten games now in the season, Bedard is tied with Donato for the team lead in goals and leads the Blackhawks with 12 points.
