Nate Danielson showed why he could soon be in the NHL by scoring his first goal of the season and adding a game-winning shootout tally to help the Grand Rapid Griffins earn a win that gives them their best start in franchise history.

The Detroit affiliate is now 6-0 after defeating the Iowa Wild 4-3 in the shootout.  Michal Postava made 37 saves, plus three more in the shootout to raise his personal record to 3-0. He now shows a 2.29 goals-against average and .934 save percentage.

Playing his second game since returning from an injury, Danielson scored a second-period goal and then netted the only goal in the shootout.

The Red Wings haven’t yet announced who will replace Michael Brandsegg-Nygard on the roster. He was sent back to the Griffins Monday. Carter Mazur was one of the favorites, but he was injured in practice. Another possibility is John Leonard who scored his sixth goal in four games in the win over Iowa. Detroit prospect Amadeus Lombardi earned his sixth assist on that goal.

Defenseman Erik Gustafsson had a pair of assists in the game.  Detroit prospect Alex Doucet also scored in the contest.
