Detroit Red Wings look to prove themselves on the road

Detroit Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin and Todd McLellan speak Monday, Oct. 27, 2025 in Detroit.

The Detroit Red Wings figured out how to play their game on the road, and set quite the tone for the start of a big trip.

After an early stumble on Tuesday, Oct. 28, against the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center, the Wings recovered and took command, going on to earn a 5-2 victory.

The Wings (7-3-0) had won once in three road outings before going to St. Louis, and that one victory came down to goaltending. But with the Blues – against whom the Wings staged a six-goal comeback three nights earlier in Detroit – the Wings seemed to find their tune.

The Wings played with pace and resolve, and benefitted from spread-out scoring.

The Wings fell behind by a goal in the opening minute when Brayden Schenn scored on John Gibson, but tied the game around the midpoint of the first period when Ben Chiarot flicked a puck on net that appeared to deflect in off Justin Faulk. Alex DeBrincat, after going scoreless the first eight games, found the back of the net for a second straight outing to put the Wings up, 2-1.

Dylan Larkin scored his team-leading seventh goal when he tipped the puck past Jordan Binnington midway through the second period. Less than two minutes later, Elmer Söderblom snapped the puck into St. Louis’ net for his first goal of the season and a 4-1 lead.

Jordan Kyrou cut that to 4-2 with 4:24 to play in the third period. The Blues pulled their goalie for an extra attacker late in the game, but Larkin turned that opportunity into an empty-net marker.

The Wings next play Thursday at the Los Angeles Kings, the first of three straight games in California, followed by the end of the road trip in Las Vegas.
