If we consult the past history of the Detroit Red Wings, the prospects of Dylan Larkin and the team making the Stanley Cup playoffs look good.

History has foretold of the Red Wings making the playoffs.

The last time the team started with a similar record (7-2-1 in 2010-11), one of their best starts to a campaign for some time, it led to a playoff run.

For the Red Wings, this is the 15th time the team has started at the top, and in 14 of these seasons, the team has made a run to the playoffs.

The Detroit Red Wings and Todd McLellan: Set to make a run?

While Detroit Red Wings Captain Dylan Larkin has been vocal about his frustrations with the lack of playoff contention in recent years, his tune had changed after the game against the Blues.

«I think a good road game out of our team and something that we’ve been looking to do,» Larkin said on the team’s website. «And the (key) point is a total team win. I think all the lines were good, all the D pairs played really solid, and Gibby (goaltender John Gibson) was great.

«We had a great third period as well. So a lot of positives and a really good way to start the trip.»

The team has gotten off to a great start in the Atlantic Division, and could bring a positive outlook in Spring, but he will focus on the games ahead instead of March and April, when the team’s goals will look different.

Just to give you an idea:

“Nine times when the Red Wings opened a campaign 7-3 or better, they wound up the season in first place. Five times, they’ve gone on to win the Stanley Cup. Three other seasons saw the Wings reach the Stanley Cup final.”

The Red Wings could legitimately end up in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but for now, it’s premature to suggest that a thing could happen so soon.

It’s better just to watch and let the team mesh and build on each victory this season.
