A trade proposal has emerged this week that would see the Vancouver Canucks acquire another former first round pick that is currently looking for a fresh start.

The Vancouver Canucks have been on the lookout for forward help ever for several months now but with injuries continuing to pile up, General Manager Patrik Allvin has gotten a lot more aggressive in scouring the trade market.

Trade proposal sends former first round pick to the Vancouver Canucks

In a recent article for Heavy.com, Michael DeRosa suggested a trade that would see the Vancouver Canucks add some more help on the wing by landing Yegor Chinakhov from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Blue Jackets have made it known that while they will look around to see what they can get for the 24-year-old winger, they aren’t in a rush to move him and won’t trade him unless they’re comfortable with the asset(s) they receive in return.

As for what the Blue Jackets would land from the Vancouver Canucks in DeRosa’s trade proposal, that would be centerman Teddy Blueger, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, along with a second round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

“With the Canucks needing more skill and forward depth, Chinakhov is exactly the kind of young player who they should consider pursuing. When looking at their current roster, he would have the potential to provide their middle six and power play with a nice boost.” DeRosa said.

In seven games this season for the Blue Jackets, Chinakhov has recorded four points (two goals, two assists), no penalty minutes and is a plus-two while averaging 10:19 of ice time per night.

There’s no question that the Vancouver Canucks should be interested in Chinakhov, who is set to become a restricted free agent following the 2025-26 season, but with their centre depth already quite thin at the moment, it doesn’t seem like parting with Teddy Blueger right now would be the best move for Patrik Allvin.

Once Vancouver is back at full health, perhaps we could see a deal like this be completed between the Blue Jackets and Canucks, depending on where Adam Foote’s group are in the NHL standings.
