The Vancouver Canucks have been a storied franchise in the NHL for half a century, during that time the team has worn many different jerseys, but it is starting to go a little overboard the Canucks are on the verge of an identity crisis.

“As fans likely noticed, the Vancouver Canucks opted to wear their Black Skate alternate jersey during during their home & season opener back on October 9th against the Calgary Flames. Fans of the team have grown quite fond of the uniforms, which were worn from 1985-1997, in recent years after they were brought back as their 50th anniversary jersey during the 2019-20 campaign and as a full fledged alternate from 2023 until now.”-Jaxon

A lack of consistency is hurting the Vancouver Canucks brand.

Stephan Roget of Canucks Army reported on the growing problem that is the Canucks branding and jersey selection. With the Canucks never staying consistent with their colours, it makes it much harder to keep gaining fans. The most storied franchises in sports all have kept their same colours from New York Yankees, to the Montreal Canadiens, to the Dallas Cowboys. Wile they may have made small changes to their logos, their colours remain the same.

“A consistent colour palette for the entire history should have been the way to go. But that ship sailed long, long ago. This team has had an ongoing identity crisis for 50 years – quit messing with the damn brand and stick with the blue and green.»-Jeffy Canucks Army

Now when you go to a Canucks game, half the fans are wearing blue and green jerseys, and the other half are wearing black jerseys. It doesn’t make sense it’s like there are two different fanbases cheering for the same team.

“You won’t find a more classic set of uniforms and the colours thereof than in Montreal and Toronto. But then they’ve got history on their side. Teams as young or younger than the Canucks, however, like their Albertan rivals in Calgary and Edmonton, also have strong and consistent themes throughout their existence. See the «C of Red» or the preponderance of blue and orange in Oiltown for evidence.”-Roget

Not only do the Canucks have a performance crisis with all their injuries, now they have an identity crisis, fans look divided in their own arena, and the Canucks need to do something about it.
