District One Field Hockey:CB West advances to Class 3A championship
Despite the success of the CB West field hockey team, the Bucks, surprisingly, haven’t played in a district championship game since 2016.
That streak came to an end Tuesday night, as the No. 3 CB West topped No. 7 Downingtown West, 2-1, in the Class 3A semifinals.
The same two players who secured the Bucks’ 4-3 overtime win against Conestoga in the quarterfinals stepped up again. Senior Maryland recruit Aida Ierubino put the Bucks on the board early with a goal in the first quarter on an assist from Claire Demmer. Junior Zola Morelli gave the Bucks a 2-0 lead on the third quarter, and that insurance goal proved to be crucial as Allie Pizak scored for DW in the fourth. But that would be all they would get against a strong Bucks’ defense, with the Whippets outshooting the Bucks 18-14.
Class 3A Semifinal: No. 1 Villa Maria 6, No. 6 Methacton 0Class 3A Playback: No. 9 Garnet Valley 4, No. 5 Souderton 1
Hannah Cornes scored for Souderton, but despite the Big Red outshooting Garnet Valley 11-10, they couldn’t overcome a three-goal game by Regan Leydig.
What’s Next:CB West advances to the Class 3A championship game, where the Bucks will face No. 1 Villa Maria on Saturday. The Bucks previously secured a PIAA playoff berth with their quarterfinal win. In their regular season meeting, Villa Maria defeated CB West 4-3 on Oct. 11.Villa Maria, a perennial playoff contender, played in last year’s PIAA Class 3A state championship game, where it fell to Conestoga in overtime. The Bucks defeated Conestoga this year in the district quarterfinals.Souderton still has a chance to make the PIAA state tournament with a win over Conestoga on Friday. The Big Red would then play a District 12 team, Northeast, in a regional D1/D12 qualifier.Class 2A, Playback Round: No. 5 Gwynedd Mercy 4, No. 1 Springfield Delco 0
The Monarchs are one step closer to a PIAA state playoff bid after toppling top-seeded Springfield in the first round of the playbacks.

Last year, the Monarchs won the district title but lost in the first round of states. Oxford was elminated in the first round of the districts last season. The two teams didn’t play each other in the regular season.
Class 1A Semifinal: No. 2 New-Hope Solebury 6, No. 3 Dock Mennonite 1
Olivia Conte scored three goals and Brianna McBride netted two as the Lions’ offense erupted for a no-doubt-about-it semifinal win. McBride put the Lions on the board in the first quarter, and Belyse Landis quickly tied it for Dock. But it was all Lions after that, with McBride scoring the go-ahead goal in the second quarter. And she wasn’t done yet. McBride had an assist on all three of Conte’s goals. Gabi Solis’ goal concluded the Lions’ scoring.Â
Class 1A Semifinal: No. 4 Faith Christian 3, No. 1 Delco Christian 1
The Lions secured a trip to the district finals for the third year in a row after knocking off top-seeded Delco Christian.
