ST. PAUL, Minn. — These Pittsburgh Penguins are a different breed, and as they continue to defy expectations, they are proudly demonstrating that they are markedly different from the downtrodden group of Hall of Famers who missed the playoffs in the last three seasons.
In fact, they are a scrappy bunch of overachievers who are, in many cases, seizing opportunities not afforded to them in any team before.
The locker room was a comedic roast Thursday, before and after they dispatched the tame Minnesota Wild.
Side note: If Wild GM Bill Guerin is hoping to pair the $136 million man Karill Kaprizov with Gavin McKenna next season, they are well on track.
The locker room was also full of insight–actual hockey insights–on what makes this team so very much different than the previously fragile group that couldn’t hold leads, struggled to get up for games, and otherwise had a losing record when overtime faceplants were included.
And, for subscribers, I will unmask the practical joker who made the Parker Wotherspoon chalk outline, BUT you must also be sworn to secrecy.
