Rookie Oilers forward Matthew Savoie reportedly left today’s practice with an injury, and could miss some games.
It’s a heavily unfortunate break for Savoie if he doesn’t miss time, as he’s been the most well-rounded of Oilers rookies this season. He’s even slowly earned the trust of the coaching staff, with consistent playing time in the third line recently.
Oilers forward Matthew Savoie leaves practice with injury
The Edmonton Oilers held an optional skate this afternoon, and reporters noticed Savoie leaving the group early while limping.
Following the practice, Coach Knoblauch simply said that he has no update on Savoie’s condition at the moment.
It’s too early to speculate, but if it was purely a minor injury or stinger, the Oilers would’ve already known. Savoie could be currently going through medical tests.
Not only has Savoie been a good fit on both offence and in defensive roles, including the penalty kill, he registered his first NHL goal in the Oilers’ last game.
If he’s going to miss any time with injury, it comes at an extremely unfortunate time for his personal development.
Through his young hockey career, there has been some doubt raised on Savoie’s ability to hold up to the grind of the NHL. He’s sustained some pretty significant injuries since the 2022-23 season, and is a smaller player at 5’10.
Hopefully it’s just a minor issue, and Savoie can get back into the lineup as soon as possible to continue his strong rookie season.
