The Vancouver Canucks are in deep waters, struggling with injuries they need everyone on the current roster to surpass expectations if they are to save their season, Kiefer Sherwood is doing just that recording a hat trick against the St.Louis Blues, where the Canucks ended up winning in a shootout.
“During a recent appearance on Inside Sports, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period revealed that the Vancouver Canucks are a bit hesitant in getting a contract extension completed with Kiefer Sherwood mainly due to the fact that it could cost the club more than they’d like to spend.”-Jaxon
Sherwood making his case to get resigned by the Canucks
Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet reported on the most recent game between the Canucks and the Blues, if it weren’t for Sherwood the Canucks would have had no chance. The Canucks currently have almost half their roster out due to injury.”With nine players injured and the Vancouver Canucks a player short after Brock Boeser was hit in the groin by defenceman-teammate Elias Pettersson‘s first-minute slapshot – roughly the same area the hockey gods have been kicking the team since the National Hockey League season began – Sherwood’s hat trick matched the St. Louis Blues’ offence and made possible his team’s gutsy 4-3 shootout win in Missouri.”-MacIntyre
Sherwood is up for a new contract this summer, and while the Canucks have reportedly said he will be too expensive, he is quickly proving he is well worth the money. And the Canucks can use all the help in regards to scoring as they can get.
“Sherwood, on setups by Evander Kane and Drew O’Connor, countered Holloway and Snuggerud, then gave the Canucks a 3-2 lead at 7:04 of the third period when he picked up the puck after Aatu Raty broke his stick trying to shoot it and surprised Binnington with a heavy short-side wrister.”-MacIntyre
It will be interesting to see how the Canucks handle the Sherwood situation going forward, if he continues to play this way, the Canucks will have no choice but to keep him, as he is quickly evolving into a top 6 forward in the NHL.
