Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote is drawing more criticism this week, this time for a questionable decision he made at Tuesday’s morning skate.

It might be early, but the Vancouver Canucks haven’t had the start to the 2025-26 season they were hoping for, with inconsistent play and injury issues continuing to mount being two big reasons for their lackluster October. You certainly won’t hear the players or coaching staff complain about it or use it as an excuse, but the NHL’s condensed schedule isn’t helping their situation either, especially with the Canucks playing six of their first eight games of the season away from Rogers Arena.

Adam Foote has had a challenging start to his tenure as Head Coach of the Vancouver Canucks and recently, the bench boss was criticized for a questionable decision he made at their morning skate ahead of Tuesday’s game against the New York Rangers.

In a video posted to social media on Tuesday, Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic shared that Adam Foote decided to put his group through pretty intense skating drill towards the end of their morning skate.

Given that the Canucks were coming off back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday against Montreal and Edmonton, respectively and with the club not having many off days early on, many were puzzled by Foote’s decision to make the team do this skating drill.

“Look, I don’t know how long this went for, but the #Canucks doing this at the end of their game day skate today with a compressed schedule (8 games in 13 days) seemed like a bad idea by Adam Foote.

They didn’t have the same jump at 5v5 tonight like they did vs. MTL & EDM. Add in the lack of overall practices and injuries” Grady Sas said on X.

According to Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali, a lot of people were surprised that Adam Foote decided to do this at the end of Tuesday’s morning skate.

“A lot of people are shocked and surprised Foote did this.” Dhaliwal said.

The skating drill didn’t seem to work out in Adam Foote’s favour as the Canucks came out flat, recording just four shots in the opening frame and went on to fall to the New York Rangers by a score of 2-0.

Foote’s group will look to bounce back tonight as they open up their three-game road trip with a stop in St. Louis, Missouri against Pius Suter and the Blues, with puck drop set for 5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
