The University of Alaska Anchorage hockey team used an overtime goal by Dimitry Kebreau to stun No. 6 Denver 4-3 on Friday at Magness Arena.
The win was the first time UAA topped a ranked opponent since a 4-0 road victory against No. 9 Providence on Jan. 20, 2024.
Kebreau notched his first goal of the season to give the Seawolves the victory at 3:55 of the overtime period.
Denver, coached by Anchorage’s David Carle, is a perennial championship contender with NCAA national titles in 2022 and 2024 under his guidance.
The Pioneers struck first with a goal from Kieran Cebrian at 9:25 of the first period.
UAA’s Aiden Westin evened the score at 1-1 with a power play goal at 16:52 of the first period. Ryan Johnson and Kebreau provided assists.
DU’s Rieger Lopez scored on a penalty shot in the second period only for UAA to tie it up again. Joey Potter helped the Seawolves bounce back with a pair of goals.
His blue-line shot that found the net, assisted by Johnson, tied the game at 2-2 in the second period. He added a go-ahead goal at 7:05 of the third period to give UAA its first lead of the game.
Denver scored using an extra attacker with just 1:20 remaining in regulation to force the 3-on-3 overtime, setting up the eventual game-winner by Kebreau.
UAA goalie Tyler Krivtsov made a career-high 46 saves as the Pioneers outshot the Seawolves 49-20.
The two teams will face off again Saturday at 4 p.m. Alaska time.
