Colorado Avalanche forward Taylor Makar made his NHL debut against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday afternoon.
It’s a cool moment for anyone, climbing to the peak of professional hockey.
But this milestone is also huge for the Makar family, as Taylor joins his brother Cale playing for Colorado. It’s the first time in Avalanche history (not Nordiques) that two brothers have suited up in a game together.

Taylor Makar was a seventh-round pick for the Avs in the 2021 NHL Draft. He played college hockey at the University of Massachusetts for three years before finishing at the University of Maine last season. Makar had 18 goals and 12 assists as a senior, good for 30 points.
He has since skated in 14 games with the Colorado Eagles, the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate, between last year and this year. He registered two goals and three assists in those contests.
Taylor Makar is skating with Colorado’s fourth-line in his debut against the Sharks. He was promoted from the AHL late Friday night after Gavin Brindley took a scary hit against the Vegas Golden Knights and is out of the lineup.
Cale is obviously a superstar, but Taylor Makar earned this opportunity. It’ll be fun to watch his NHL journey.
