Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander held nothing back regarding how he feels after missing three of his last four games as the team struggles early on.
The injury woes for the Toronto Maple Leafs are well known and though they are slowly getting their injured back, it is going to take some time until everyone is healthy and the team can put out the lineup they hoped for.
However, one name who is still dealing with injury issues is star forward William Nylander, who left the game last week against the Sabres and has been touch and go ever since.
Nylander Admits the Waiting Game Is Wearing on Him
Skating in warmups but being scratched, there is a lot of mystery surrounding the winger’s health, and if you were to ask him, he’s just plain old tired about being hurt.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Toronto’s game against Philadelphia; the third game out of his last four that he’ll miss, Nylander was blunt in his assessment of how he feels and hates that it’s going to take longer than he wants:
Yeah. It sucks. I mean there’s nothing I can really do about it. It’s just going to need to take some time.
Not mincing words, it indeed has sucked for the Maple Leafs without their top scorer, and at times look lost and lifeless without his energy.
Why the Maple Leafs Know They Can’t Afford Another Setback
But the team needs to make sure they don’t rush him back regardless of how badly he wants to get back into the game, and the fact that they had to deal with Auston Matthews‘ issues all of last year, the last thing they want is another star on the shelf.
Plus, he’s the team’s leading scorer with 15 points in 9 games (3 goals, 12 assists) and has been one of the lone bright spots for a team that has had a really rough start to their 2025 season.
Losing Nylander for any extended period of time is already going to make their murky future even less clear, and not knowing what exactly is the true nature of the injury makes things tougher to predict.
As long as the team manages Nylander and doesn’t force him back too early, his return eventually will give the team a spark that will hopefully only add to some newly gained momentum.
However if they act out of desperation, it could be their sudden downfall.
