With how well Kiefer Sherwood has been playing this NHL season for the Vancouver Canucks, there is a growing concern the Canucks will not want to pay the price for him, as he is due for a contract extension this season.

“Without a doubt, the Vancouver Canucks are hoping that they can find some common ground on a new deal with forward Kiefer Sherwood, who is coming off the best year of his NHL career in 2024-25 and has six goals in 11 games to start this season.”-Jaxon

Contract stalemate between Kiefer Sherwood and Vancouver Canucks.

The NHL Rumour Report has posted on X the growing concern for the Sherwood situation and how there are essentially no efforts on the Canucks part to figure out an extension.

David Pagnotta: Re Kiefer Sherwood: They have not talked contract, the Canucks have not reached out to his camp about at least initiating contract discussions; I know there’s a little bit of worry…how much is this guy really gonna cost – Daily Faceoff Live (10/30)

While only playing an average 12:17 of ice time per game, Sherwood has accumulated 9 goals in 12 games (tied for 1st in the league). His shooting percentage is at an astounding 31.6%, which suggests he deserves much more ice time. He is on the verge of a breakout year, and the Canucks have shown zero interest in keeping him.

Wow.

It truly doesn’t make sense how the Canucks haven’t even begun extension talks with Sherwood. He is the only player producing on a team with hardly any scoring touch. And if he continues on this pace his price is going to skyrocket, they are better off signing him now while they can keep him at a decent price.
