Craig Berube has given an update after Chris Tanev left following a terrifying collision against the Philadelphia Flyers.Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev left in the third period of the Leafs game against the Philadelphia Flyers after colliding in what appeared to be head first with Flyers forward Matvei Michkov.

Tanev, who had just returned from injury, had to be removed via a stretcher, but appeared to give a «thumbs-up» as he exited Philadelphia in the Leafs 5-2 win.

After leaving in what was a concerning incident, Craig Berube has provided an update on the defenseman and the current status regarding Tanev’s health.

Chris Tanev Undergoes Tests but Is Moving and Alert, Says Craig Berube

In a positive update, Craig Berube has confirmed that Chris Tanev is active and alert, a positive as Tanev’s condition was not clear after exiting the game.

Berube said that Tanev is getting more testing, with stuff still left to be worked out as he is checked out, adding that he feels that Tanev will be «all right».

As well, Berube also added that Tanev may still fly out with the Leafs and head back to Toronto ahead of the team’s next game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but with no indication, and unlikely, that Tanev would be active against Pittsburgh.

The loss of Tanev comes as the 35-year-old had made his return for the Leafs, having missed the last two games for Toronto in which the Leafs blueline had struggled defensively in his absence.

The move is also a second concern concussion wise for Tanev who received head contact from Michkov, and puts a worry about if this will be a serious issue for Tanev or one that looks worse than it is.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are continuing to monitor the status of Chris Tanev and his potential availability, although once again the risk for the Leafs is that once again they may be without one of their key defenders for a period of time after just a game.
