Lane Hutson and Nick Suzuki drew attention during the Montreal Canadiens’ practice after a comment that sparked plenty of reaction on social media.
Since Friday morning, a simple observation in Brossard has taken an unexpected turn.
It all started with a post by TSN journalist Kenzie Lalonde, who noted that Nick Suzuki was the first Montreal Canadiens player to hit the ice – not Hutson.
“Nick Suzuki was the first player on the ice today (Not Lane Hutson).
Adam Nicholas pointed this out to the media watching, so Nick waved his stick around for recognition”
– Kenzie Lalonde
She added that it was assistant coach Adam Nicholas who made the comment and even teased the captain about it, which made the attending media smile.
“Lane gets a huge pay day and starts slacking?
Not looking good.”

Montreal Canadiens Fans Defend Lane Hutson After the Viral Comment
Plenty of people reacted as Lane may have stayed up late the night before collecting Halloween candy!
Many found it funny and others felt the need to defend the young defenseman.
If there’s one guy you can’t accuse of not working hard, it’s definitely Lane Hutson.
Several rumors circulated this summer that he was practically living at the CN Sports Complex.
Once again, it shows just how important the Habs are to all Montrealer’s.
It doesn’t take more than a lighthearted anecdote like this to grab fans’ attention.
Nick Suzuki, for his part, took the situation with humor.
As Kenzie Lalonde mentioned, he raised his stick toward the journalists after being teased by Adam Nicholas.
And honestly, if this kind of “controversy” is what makes headlines, it might actually be a good sign for the team’s locker-room atmosphere.
