The Toronto Maple Leafs issued an update on social media this morning after former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev was taken to hospital on Saturday night.

Former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev was a fan favourite in British Columbia, spending parts of ten seasons with the club after signing with them as a free agent out of college in 2010.

“When Chris went to Dallas, we had a decision to make this summer. There were three teams… I can tell you [Vancouver] was one of the three teams that Christopher had to choose from.” Mike Tanev said.

The Toronto native is now in his second season with his hometown Maple Leafs, but on Saturday night, a scary incident occurred that forced the ex-Canuck to be taken to a local hospital in Philadelphia.

During last night’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers, which marked his return to the lineup for the first time since October 21st, Matvei Michkov accidently hit an unsuspecting Chris Tanev while trying to get onside and the former Canuck fell to the ice in pain.

Tanev was laying on the ice for a little while, being attended to by the team’s medical staff before being stretchered off and taken to a hospital in the Philadelphia area.

“Scary scene in Philly as Chris Tanev had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher after this collision with Matvei Michkov”

Fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs and other teams around the National Hockey League anxiously waited for an update on the 35-year-old and on Sunday, thankfully the club gave one on social media.

In a post on X, the Maple Leafs shared that Chris Tanev was evaluated in hospital in Philadelphia overnight and was discharged this morning, adding that he will be making the trip back to Toronto, presumably today.

“The Maple Leafs announced today that defenceman Chris Tanev was evaluated overnight in Philadelphia for precautionary purposes, has been discharged this morning, and will return home to Toronto.” Maple Leafs PR said.

It’s great to hear that Chris Tanev has been released from hospital and is on his way back to Toronto to continue his recovery and hopefully, we’ll see him back on the ice very soon.
