They soared into The Lou up 2-0 in the series and soured by the end of Thursday night with a 7-2 loss — St. Louis cashed as a +104 underdog, while the Over (5) hit. C David Gustafsson and D Neal Pionk were the only ones to crack Blues G Jordan Binnington as C Mark Scheifele and LW Kyle Connor were both shut out for the first time in the series. Jets G Connor Hellebuyck also struggled as he gave up 6 goals on 25 shots. He mishandled a play behind the net that led to the fourth goal of the game and eventually was pulled in the third period.

Many left the Blues for dead after failing to secure a victory in Winnipeg, but RW Pavel Buchnevich recorded a hat trick, first scoring 48 seconds in and again on the power play just over 3 minutes into the game. He was the benefactor of the Hellebuyck misplay in the third as C Robert Thomas stole the puck from the goalie behind the net and got it to Buchy to complete the hat trick. D Cam Fowler cashed a +120 for us with an anytime point, and he set the Blues franchise record with 5 points by a defenseman in a single playoff game, finishing with 1 goal and 4 assists.

The Blues fans were yelling “COOOONNNOOOORRR,” and he didn’t do anything to quiet them, allowing 6 goals on 25 shots in 2½ periods. He has now allowed 4+ goals in 4 straight road playoff games and 3+ in 11 of 12 playoff games overall. He is about to win his third Vezina Trophy and is absolutely the best goalie in the league, but his playoff woes continue to add up. He has an .844 SV% in the series.

Binner made some unreal saves in Game 3, stopping 17 of 19 fired his way. They were up 3 heading into the third, and Winnipeg made a push, but the lead was never less than 2 goals. His SV% doesn’t do him justice in the series at .877. He is 11-0-0 in his barn since the 4 Nations Face-off.

Jets at Blues picks and predictionsPrediction

Blues 4, Jets 3

Game 3 was brutal as there were more than 60 hits combined in the first period and 113 total hits in the game. The Blues found a way to get under the Jets’ skin and went 3-for-8 on the power play.

There’s an old adage in hockey that the series doesn’t start until someone loses on home ice. I don’t think that applies here just yet. The Jets (-135) will try to flip the tables on the Blues and come out rugged and fast, but they clearly have the mojo at home with an 13-0-1 record there since the 4 Nations Face-off.

TAKE BLUES (+115).

I absolutely love St. Louis D COLTON PARAYKO OVER 1.5 SHOTS (-105). He had 3 and 2 shots on goal (SOG) in the last 2 games, and he scored his first goal of the series in Game 3. The Blues’ defensemen are a key to their offense with the blueliners pinching in.

The Over is 2-1-0 in this series, and I don’t see things tightening up anytime soon with the amount of bad blood that is spewing. The Jets took 40 penalty minutes, mostly because of the frequent scrums late in Game 3 that were anointed 10-minute game misconducts.

Give me OVER 5.5 (+118).
