Forward Patrick Kane of the Detroit Red Wings has been out of the lineup since October 17th, after the team’s 2-1 OT win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, and his availability remains unchanged.

The hot start to the 2025-26 season gave fans hope as the Red Wings looked to turn a new leaf for the year.

With Todd McLellan in charge, they’ve found themselves atop a division they struggled in.

As the rebuild continues unabated, the team is missing one forward who’s been out of the lineup due to an upper-body injury. Before Captain Dylan Larkin could seal the victory with a game-winning goal, Kane would collide with the boards behind the net and skate back to the bench while holding his shoulder.

Since then, he’s not been available to a team that needs all hands on deck for a potential playoff run.

While he’s been able to skate, he’s been considered day-to-day, according to Todd McLellan. But he remains out of the lineup, as he continues to recover.

Per Max Bultman of The Athletic, who is traveling with the team:

The Detroit Red Wings are Missing Patrick Kane

Kane’s absence has been weathered well by the Red Wings, with Mason Appleton assuming a top-line role for the team. However, it remains to be seen how sustainable all of this will be while the top six is held together by Lucas Raymond and Mason Appleton on the right wing of the first two lines.

Kane is a 59-point forward who had a point-per-game pace to start the season. His production won’t be replicated by Appleton.
