The Grand Rapids Griffins keep winning and John Leonard continues scoring. Or maybe, it’s the other way around.

Whatever the case, Red Wings minor leaguer Leonard scored two more goals to help the Griffins beat the Rockford IceHogs 6-2 to raise their record to 8-0. Leonard, 27, now has scored nine goals in his six-game scoring streak to take over the American Hockey League in goals.

The Griffins are the AHL’s only unbeaten team and the Grand Rapids squad has only trailed 12 minutes and 50 seconds over its first eight games.

Detroit prospects are contributing mightily to Grand Rapids’ success. Amadeus Lombardi had two more assists in the home game against Rockford to give him nine assists in eight games. He also leads the Griffins in plus-minus (plus-9).

Center Nate Danielson, a prime candidate to be promoted, contributed two more assists to give him five points in four games.

Veteran farm hand Dominik Shine had a goal against Rockford to give him six for the season. Eduards Tralmaks, signed in the offseason after a quality season in Czechia’s top league, also tallied to give him four goals this season.

Veteran NHL player Erik Gustafsson, sent to Grand Rapids to make room for Axel Sandin Pellikka, has contributed six assists in six games.

Michal Postava was in net Sunday for the win. He’s now 4-0 with a 2.22 GAA and .934 save percentage. But Sebastian Cossa’s numbers are slightly better (4-0, 1.75 GAA and .939 save percentage).  b

Alex DeBrincat’s goal scoring streak was stopped at four games in Sunday’s win against the San Jose Sharks. But he did record an assist in that game to extend his points streak to six games. DeBrincat shows four goals and five assists in the six games. There’s still no timetable for his linemate Patrick Kane’s return from injury. All we know is he won’t play Wednesday at Vegas. Kane has now missed eight games with an upper body injury.
