The Dallas Stars expect to be without their starting goalie Jake Oettinger for a rematch with the Edmonton Oilers at American Airlines Center Tuesday night, but it’s for good reason.
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan announced after practice Monday that Oettinger was not with the team today because his wife Kennedi gave birth to their first child. Gulutzan said he does not expect Oettinger to play Tuesday when the Stars face the team that eliminated them from the Western Conference finals the last two years.
That means Casey DeSmith will start in goal for Dallas.
Oettinger has a 5-2-2 record in nine starts this season. He has posted a .913 save percentage, 2.53 goals-against average and one shutout.

DeSmith has started just three games for Dallas with a 1-1-1 record, a .873 save percentage and 3.28 goals-against average.
The Stars also expected to be shorthanded in terms of skaters. Dallas is still down its top two centermen, as Roope Hintz and Matt Duchene were again deemed day-to-day Monday.
Hintz has missed Dallas’ last four games after taking a big hit in the Stars’ Oct. 25 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Duchene hasn’t played since Oct. 18 and is still recovering from an injury he suffered on a hit against Minnesota on Oct. 14.
The Stars are also still without captain Jamie Benn, who continues his recovery from surgery for a collapsed lung.
Even without three forwards, the Stars are on a six-game points streak.
