MADISON, Wis. — Winning sure is sweet, especially when it’s against your archrival, especially when you do it twice in one weekend.

And when that sweep of No. 19 Minnesota sends you up to No. 10 in the USCHO poll? That’s sweeter than any piece of Halloween candy the Wisconsin men’s hockey team could have picked up last week.

It has been an absolute dream start to the season for the Badgers, their best in 25 years in fact. Wisconsin remains undefeated, though back-to-back ties to No. 16 Minnesota State have put slight blemishes on the record.

While the sweep has the Badgers dreaming big, the road only gets harder from here. Up next, it’s a trip to Ann Arbor to take on No. 2 Michigan. The Wolverines have lost just one game this year. That series begins on Friday.

The Badger women’s hockey team also had a Border Battle last weekend, though their matchup didn’t go as smoothly. Minnesota won the first game of the series, 5-1, but Wisconsin responded with a 7-2 thumping on Saturday.

The split kept the Badgers as the unanimous No. 1 in the USCHO poll. However, Minnesota swapped places with Ohio State to become No. 2.

The Wisconsin women get a break this week but will take on No. 10 St. Cloud State starting on Nov. 14.
