The Philadelphia Flyers will be without star young winger Tyson Foerster for their Sunday night matchup with the Calgary Flames, the team announced.

Foerster took a point-blank shot off his left skate/ankle during the first period of Saturday night’s 5-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he scored a goal late in the third period. While he did go down the tunnel immediately following the shot, Foerster remained in the game. He even took his spot on the power play and penalty kill in Saturday’s game.

With Sunday’s matchup against the Flames being just the 12th game of the season, it made sense that he could be a precautionary scratch for the matchup. During his pregame availability, Flyers’ head coach Rick Tocchet said, “He’s obviously not going to play the next few games. We’ll reevaluate in about three or four days. We’ll see what happens from there.”

Foerster has been a key contributor for the Flyers this season. In 11 games, the 23-year-old winger has four goals and three assists for seven points and a +5 rating. He plays a significant role on the Flyers’ most productive power play unit as well as the team’s best overall line.

The Flyers’ official release states, “Forward Tyson Foerster is out tonight with a lower-body injury. He will be reevaluated later.”

Based on the update provided by Tocchet, Foerster’s status for Tuesday in Montreal is in question.

The team did not place Foerster on injured reserve. Sean Couturier will draw in for the Flyers on Sunday.
