WORCESTER, Mass. – The St. Paul field hockey team broke a scoreless tie with 3 second half goals against Gardner to move on the the Division 4 state playoffs, Ireland Shea got the Knights on the board with a goal and then Kaitlyn Genduso added 2 goals of her own, while Ava Grant pitched a shutout in net, it was a complete team win. “We ended up picking it up in the second half,”  said Captain, Avery Russell, “and we ended up being like very determined to win that we knew this was gonna be our last game if we didn’t win so I think we actually put in our heads and decided that we could win today.”

“It was definitely for us during halftime we had like a really long conversation about how right now is the time,”  said Captain, Kaitlyn Genduso, “I don’t want this to be my last game, I have to work and score now and pass and talk to each other and have communication throughout the game, so I think we decided to take what our coaches said and ran with it and then we scored and we got up and we just kept scoring.”

“It felt good to win this game,”  said Captain, Ireland Shea, “and going into the third quarter we knew we had to get some goals and we have spent a lot of time in our circle so we had to work on  quick passing and good shots on the goal and we communicated really well towards the end.”

“The win feels really good,”  said Captain, Ava Grant, “and I think in the first half we struggled and we weren’t communicating well but after halftime, we talked about what needed to get done. We went out there and we did it and you can tell the difference when we work as a team and communicate that we’re able to get things done.”
