Vancouver Native & Former Stanley Cup Champion Milan Lucic Signs Professional Tryout

Vancouver, British Columbia native and former Stanley Cup champion Milan Lucic has signed a professional tryout contract (PTO) one month into the 2025-26 campaign.

Lucic’s professional tryout didn’t go as he was hoping as he suffered a lower-body injury and was released by the Blue just before the 2025-26 campaign began, with General Manager Doug Armstrong telling reporters that he could rejoin the organization at a later date once he’s back at full health.

On Tuesday morning, the St. Louis Blues announced in a press release that Milan Lucic is returning to the organization and has signed a professional tryout with their American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds.

“St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that forward Milan Lucic will join the Blues’ AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds, on a professional tryout (PTO).” the Blues said.

Lucic, 37, hit the ice for the first time with the Springfield Thunderbirds this morning and brings a whopping 1,177 games of NHL experience to the club and whenever he does suit up, whether it be this weekend or next, it’ll mark his debut in the American Hockey League.

Lucic has 1,177 career NHL games on his resume, but zero in the AHL to date.” Tony Androckitis of Inside AHL Hockey said on X.

The first opportunity for Lucic to make his AHL debut is this Friday, November 7th, as the Thunderbirds host the Bridgeport Islanders at 4:05 p.m. PT.
