Sergei Murashov
Top Pittsburgh Penguins goaltending prospect Sergei Murashov has been named the American Hockey League’s goalie of the month for October, his second league honor so far.
For the opening month of the season, Murashov was 5-2-0 in seven starts, with a 1.73 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He had one shutout. He ranks tied for second in the league with his five wins. At one point, he went 123 minutes, 46 seconds without allowing a goal.
Murashov was named AHL player (not just goalie) of the week once last month after stopping 51 of 52 shots in two games.
The 21-year-old Russian, who was drafted by the Penguins in the fourth round in 2022, is widely considered to be an NHL goalie in waiting, with veteran Tristan Jarry and newcomer Arturs Silovs platooning so far for the NHL Penguins this season. The Penguins also have Joel Blomqvist in their system, but he was set back this season because of an injury.
Murashov spent a fair amount of time with the ECHL Wheeling Nailers last season but is the No. 1 goalie for WBS this season. Overall at the AHL level, he is 17-5-0 with a 2.36 GAA and .918 save percentage, with two shutouts in 23 appearances.
He made it clear when he chose to come to North America that he was a bone fide prospect, beginning with development camp in 2024. He signed an entry-level contract on the heels of that.
