The Edmonton Oilers sure have a unique development strategy for many of their prospects, but so far this season it has worked. Minor league prospects around the organization have thrived in the early portion of the 2025–26 season, while most junior players continue to build momentum.

The Oilers have had a busy week at all levels of play. Let’s take a look.

Welcome to the TOR Edmonton Oilers prospect update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Oilers’ prospects have done in their respective leagues to go along with a feature one one standout prospect in Edmonton’s system. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games, and is born 2001 or earlier.

Paul Fischer, D, University of Notre Dame

When Paul Fischer joined the NCAA, it was as a solid transitional defensive defender. Over the past two seasons the former World Juniors Team USA member has really begun elevating his game to be a “everything” defender.

He now plays a two-way defender’s game with primarily defensive upside, but growing offensive instincts and skill. His game is increasingly highlighted by strong physicality, a high compete level, and strong senses.

One of the areas that Fischer has been steadily growing is in terms of his offensive instincts, offensive play reading, and puck skills. This has allowed him to be much more of a transitional asset as his college career goes on.

This season with Notre Dame the defender has averaged 21:21 of TOI. Of that time 3:32 is on the power-play which demonstrates his increasing offensive utility, and 2:32 of it is on the penalty kill. He still serves primarily as a steady defensive gap closing presence on the Notre Dame blueline.

His physicality stands out as always, with him winning a stellar 64% of his puck battles, and dishing out 1.33 hits per game.

Edmonton Oilers prospect updates

AHL

The Bakersfield Condors had a rough week, and now are on a four-game losing skid. This past week they lost against the Colorado Eagles on the October 29, 2–1 and then dropped a pair of games against the Wranglers on November 1 and 2.

The Condors now sit sixth in the AHL’s Pacific Division with a 3–4–2 record.

Undrafted forward, Viljami Marjala now leads all Oilers prospects in points with one goal and six assists across nine games.

One interesting development is the fact that top defensive prospect, Beau Akey, has not played a regular season game yet this year for the Condors. The former second rounder did suit up in the preseason. There are also no reports of any injury suffered by the OHL alumni.

ECHL

The Komets are on a role, as they exit the week on a three game win streak. The Komets defeated the Iowa Heartlanders on October 29, 31, and November 1. Stellar goaltending and defence contributed to the Komets only allowing two goals combined in that span.

Fort Wayne is now 5–1–0, good enough for first place in the ECHL’s western conference.

Oilers prospect netminder, Samuel Jonsson, stopped 44 shots across two games, and posted two shutouts last week alone.

Nathaniel Day secured the other win for the Komets, and now stands with a 2–1-0 record on the season.

Oilers prospect goaltender Connor Ungar recently was assigned to a different ECHL team, the Greensboro Gargoyles. He started a November 1 matchup against Trois-Rivières Lions, where he collected his first win of the 2025–26 campaign.

Europe

Oilers 2025 sixth rounder, Daniel Salonen played in one game this past week, and collected a 3–2 victory against Sport.

2024six6th round defender, Albin Sundin, doubled his entire seasons point total this past week. The SHL defender appeared in three games this past week, a game on the 28th against Färjestad BK, and the 29th versus the Malmö Redhawks, both of which the Swede found the scoresheet in. Sundin then finished his week on a 5–0 win against HV71 on the first. His transitional game is becoming more solid as the week goes on.

Petr Hauser continues to refine his offensive and playmaking ability this past week posting two assists across three games. Look for him to further refine his puck skills and skating as the season goes on.

NCAA

2024 seventh round defender Bauer Berry played a pair of games against Minnesota State Univ. (Mankato) on the October 31 and the November 1. Berry scored his first NCAA assist in the former game.

2025 Oilers draftees Aidan Park, and Asher Barnett continues to build momentum. With the injury to fellow Michigan defender, Henry Mews, in their games against Notre Dame this past week there should be more opportunity for Barnett on the backend.

Notre Dame rearguard, Paul Fischer continues building his momentum and possible Hobey Baker case as the season goes on. The American defender is solid in his own zone, and continues to build his offensive prowess, and is tied for tenth in defenceman scoring after an assist in each of his games against Michigan this past week.

2024 sixth rounder, Dalyn Wakely solidifies his role with UMass Lowell with two game of almost 20 minutes of TOI this past week against Providence College on the 31st and 1st.

WHL

Kamloops Blazers forward Tommy Lafreniere continues to find his clutch, finishing and shooting ability this season. He scored another two goals across three games this past week, in addition to another assist. Lafreniere is now tied for seventh most goals in the WHL this campaign.

David Lewandowski had a busy week appearing in four games this past week. The German’s point streak is over, but still found the scoresheet twice. He continues to promote his power-forward game with solid physicality with his near NHL ready shooting.

Russia

Nikita Yevseyev appeared in two games this past week. He continues to build good momentum this season carving out a regular role. The Russian defender played Dinamo Minsk on the November 30, and Admiral Vladivostok on the 2nd where he found an assist.
