Well the Caps finally decided to score some goals!

The Caps came out strong in the first period, putting up probably their best shift of the season, keeping the Blues hemmed in for what seemed like forever. The Caps drew a power play from it and scored on it after a Tom Wilson tip. The second period the Caps went off, scoring four goals, including Alexander Ovechkin’s 900th which was a classis Ovechkin goal: a spin around back hander from below the left circle… that’s his style, right? Anthony Beauvillier added two more, both beautiful goals: a top corner snipe and an ankle breaker move around the goalie for an open net. John Carlson also scored on a nice spin and rip from the slot.

In the third, the Blue got a quick one on the penalty kill which is always downer but luckily the Caps were still up by four and not for much longer. Wilson tipped a shot into the goalie then slapped in the rebound for his second of the game and eight on the season. Both teams got their chances after that as well but both goalies stayed strong.

Plus: Hard not to pick Ovechkin’s 900th as the highlight of the game. We have been blessed to watch him all these years and now he is the only player in NHL history to hit the 900 goal mark. Truly remarkable what we have witnessed over the years.

Minus: There wasn’t really anything to hate on. Letting a shorthanded goal in is never great but Caps were in control of the game at that point and it ended up being just a footnote on an otherwise great game.

Caps Star of the Game: Obviously Ovechkin should get the honors here, but he’s already gotten the shoutout, so we’ll go with Beauvillier and his two goals. Anthony doesn’t get a ton of time in the spotlight but he works his butt off and is just a great all-around player who can play wherever the coach needs him. It’s great to see him rewarded.
