A former Vancouver Canucks prospect is search for a new home after being released from his contract in the ECHL less than one month into the 2025-26 season.
It’s been a busy time for former members of the Vancouver Canucks organization as the 2025-26 season is in full swing around the globe, but unfortunately for some, including forward Nic Petan and goaltender Louis Domingue, they’ve had their contracts terminated in Switzerland and Russia, respectively, and are now focused on the future.
Meanwhile here in North America, there hasn’t been a ton of player movement just yet, with the National Hockey League’s season not even a month old yet, same goes for the American Hockey League and ECHL, but for one former Vancouver Canucks prospect, he’s now searching for his next club after being released.
Former Vancouver Canucks prospect released from contract, becomes free agent
In a press release on their website on Tuesday, the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears announced that they’ve agreed to terms on a contract with forward Jack Adams and to make room on their roster, have decided to release two players from their contracts, among them being former Vancouver Canucks prospect Carson Focht.
“Additionally, the Solar Bears have released forwards Carson Focht and Keanan Stewart.” the team said yesterday.
Focht, a native of Regina, Saskatchewan, was selected in the fifth round, 133rd overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and went on to spend parts of three seasons in the organization after making the jump to professional hockey.
The 25-year-old centerman made 72 appearances for the AHL’s Utica Comets and Abbotsford Canucks across parts of three seasons, along with 36 with the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL before the Vancouver Canucks decided not to issue him a qualifying offer in the summer of 2023, making him an unrestricted free agent.
” The Orlando Solar Bears, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning, has signed forward Carson Focht (FOKE) to a contract for the 2025-26 season.
Focht, 25, enters his second season with the Solar Bears and sixth professional season after appearing in seven games for the Bears last season, scoring one goal and one assist.” the Solar Bears said in August.
In two games this season with the Solar Bears, the ex-Canucks prospect went point-less, had no penalty minutes and had an even-rating.
It’s unclear what comes next for Carson Focht, with only nine games under his belt since the start of the 2024-25 season, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone if he’s scooped up by another ECHL club in the days ahead.
