The Detroit Red Wings’ own Marco Kasper has quite the nickname for being a 21-year-old NHL forward.
While it is a term of endearment, for Kasper, the nickname is a bit difficult to fathom.
He’s only 21 years old and is in his 2nd year of a professional hockey career with the Detroit Red Wings.
“Unc” Kasper has only 91 games of NHL experience and 40 points (22-18) to his name. Originally an 8th overall pick in the 1st round of the 2022 NHL Draft, he’s 6-foot-1 and 202 pounds.
He’s built like an uncle, you could say, but it’s uncertain why any of his teammates gave him it, at least to some fans.
Kasper’s teammates explain it further below:
Technically, it’s because he’s the oldest player of them all.

He has a bright future ahead of him as the team’s current 2nd-line center for the Red Wings. He’s been a fixture between Alex DeBrincat and, until his injury, Patrick Kane.
He was just shy of 20 goals last season, scoring 37 points (19-18), and proved to be adaptable to the game on North American ice.
Kasper is playing on a contract, which pays him $866K, and when it expires, “unc” will be a restricted free agent of the Red Wings.
