The Philadelphia Flyers swept their two-game road trip after a 3-1 win against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night. After their win on Thursday, the team will return to Philadelphia with four points during the road trip. Their record improved to 8-5-1 this season.
It was another great game in goal from Dan Vladar that powered Philadelphia to its win on Thursday. Matvei Michkov and Noah Cates found the scoresheet, each scoring a second-period goal, overcoming the team’s slow start in the first period.
Travis Konecny scored on the empty net, putting the dagger in the Predators’ comeback chances.
Here is how the game reached its final score on Thursday.

Predators Take an Early Lead
The Flyers did not duplicate their start from Tuesday. On Tuesday, they got out to a hot start, getting pucks on net with bodies in front. That seemed like a foreign concept during the first period on Thursday.
It was a slow start once again for Philadelphia, where the team, for lack of better words, just looked dead.
The Flyers were not getting in front of the net, nor were they shooting at a high clip. At the end of the first period, the Philadelphia was being outshot 10-7.
Nashville scored the only goal of the first period after a Filip Forsberg shot bounced off Jamie Drysdale, clipped Ryan O’Rielly, and into the back of the net.
However, the Flyers would get right back into the game.
Flyers Fight Back
Whatever Rick Tocchet said at intermission worked, because the Flyers were a completely different team in the second frame.
All of a sudden, the Flyers were once again doing the things that were working for them on Tuesday. The Flyers were putting more pressure on Predators netminder Jusse Saros, and just under five minutes into the period, Matvei Michkov finally beat him.
After keeping the puck in the offensive zone, Cam York (7) skated the puck deep into the zone before finding Michkov (2) for the equalizing tally.
The Flyers already looked better in the second period, but the goal would give them a big momentum boost. If the goal was not enough of a boost, the Flyers certainly got a jolt from an excelent stand in goal by Dan Vladar.
With time ticking away in the second period, Flyers goaltender Dan Vladar was bombarded with shots, but he stood tall. Between Vladar making saves and the defense blocking shots in front, the Predators were kept off the score sheet.
Instead, it’d be the Flyers who took the lead in the second.
Jamie Drysdale (5) fired a shot on goal. His shot would not go, but, fortunately for the Flyers, they had two extra sticks in front. Noah Cates (4) was able to collect the loose puck and bury the go-ahead score in the final three minutes of the second period.
The Flyers would take the 2-1 lead into the final frame.

Philly Holds on
The Flyers have been a strong defensive team in the third period. Offensively, that has been an area the team needed to improve in during the third period.
The Flyers have shown a tendency to ease up in the third and drop their intensity. That was not the case on Thursday. Philly did not let up and kept their intensity high.
Defensively, the team held Nashville to just four shots on goal in a third period that was do-or-die for the Predators, compared to Philadelphia’s nine.
Nashville would get two chances with the man-advantage, but the Flyers’ penalty kill once again dominated.
Konecny (5) would hit the empty net with just over a minute remaining in the game, and the Flyers would hold on for the 3-1 win.
Flyer of the Game
Dan Vladar gave up an unlucky goal within the first two minutes of the game. After that, he was absolutely perfect.
Vladar got plenty of help from the team in front of him, but he stood tall when the shots got through. The Flyers’ netminder stopped 23 of 24 shots, not allowing a goal in the final 58 minutes of the game.
Even when the offense is not clicking, goaltending has played a pivotal role in the team’s wins this season. Nashville had a chance to dig a hole for the Flyers in the first period, but Vladar kept them in it. It was a fantastic game for the goalie.
What’s Next For the Flyers
The Flyers will return home from their short, two-game road trip on Saturday when they host the Ottawa Senators at 1:00 p.m. EST at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
