A former Vancouver Canucks goaltender is on his way back to North America this week after having his contract terminated in the Kontinental Hockey League.

Over the summer, former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Louis Domingue decided he wanted a new challenge, so he packed his bags and headed to the KHL after signing a one-year contract with HC Sibir Novosibirsk for the 2025-26 season.Note: the quotes in this story are translated from Russian.

“Hockey club Sibir signed a one-year contract with 33-year-old Canadian goalie Louis Domingue.” the team said.

“Louis Domingue is leaving Sibir due to family reasons.

The goalkeeper has one win for our team, playing a total of 11 matches.

We thank Louis for his work and wish him success in his future career!” the club’s statement read.

Former Vancouver Canucks goaltender returns to North America after contract termination

Just a few days after his contract termination was made official by HC Sibir Novosibirsk and the KHL, Louis Domingue has found his next landing spot for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

According to the American Hockey League’s transaction log, the Charlotte Checkers, affiliate of the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers, have signed Louis Domingue to a standard player contract.

The St-Hyacinthe, Quebec native appeared in 11 games for HC Sibir Novosibirsk before having his contract terminated and had a 0-9-2 record with a .383 goals against average, an .892 save percentage and one shutout.

It’s unclear as to when Domingue is expected to arrive in Charlotte or when he could make his debut with the Checkers, but it’s a pretty solid addition for the Panthers’ affiliate as the 33-year-old brings a total of 144 games of NHL experience to the club.

Going back to his time with the Vancouver Canucks organization, Domingue made just one appearance after he was acquired in a trade with the New Jersey Devils in February 2020, as he got the start on March 1st of that year against the Columbus Blue Jackets, allowing four goals and stopping 30 shots in a 5-3 loss.
