The Chicago Blackhawks get ready for the penultimate game of the road trip against the Calgary Flames, concluding their run out west on Friday night.
The Chicago Blackhawks are back to their winning ways after a 5-2 win in Vancouver on Wednesday night. With the Calgary Flames due up on Friday evening, the Blackhawks will look to ride their third period momentum into Friday’s tilt at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Connor Bedard, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Spencer Knight stole the spotlight on Friday. Bedard registered a two-point game (one goal, one assist) and Bertuzzi netted a hat trick. In addition, Knight stopped 43 of the 45 shots he faced to halt an 0-2-1 skid over their last three games. Bedard’s outing has him tied for 13th in league scoring with a slew of other players across the league.
Chicago Blackhawks at Calgary Flames Preview
The Flames are off to a tough start in 2025-26. A 4-9-2 record through 15 games has them sitting in the cellar of the Western Conference and league standings. If the season ended today, Calgary has the best chance to select Gavin McKenna in June 2026. However, there is plenty of hockey left to be played, and the Blackhawks are not at a place yet to overlook a team like the Flames.
Rumors of Nazem Kadri’s possible departure swirl around the Flames as they welcome Chicago on Friday. That said, he is leading the team in points and names like Jonathan Huberdeau, Joel Farabee, and Morgan Frost may need to do more if this team hopes to climb out of the league basement.
For Chicago, Wednesday night’s win puts them just one point out of the final Wild Card spot. The Blackhawks also find themselves with a game in hand over teams surrounding them in the standings. It has been a rough recent stretch of games, but the Blackhawks are starting to compete and show teams they can win hockey games. Bedard’s excellent play, and the veterans starting to step up more as the young talent elevates could be a recipe to the Hawks making real noise over the course of the 82-game season. However, they really need a win on Friday to set up a trip-saving game on Sunday with Detroit.
