Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin will be taking a temporary leave of absence, head coach Lindy Ruff announced Friday.
Ruff said Dahlin will be heading back to his native Sweden to deal with a personal matter.
Dahlin’s fiancée, Carolina Matovac, experienced major heart failure while the two were vacationing in France this summer and needed a transplant, the couple revealed in a letter before the season began. She is currently recovering in Sweden.
Dahlin says everything is “OK,” according to Ruff, and the team is giving the defenseman their full support.
There is no timetable for his return.
